From 1,000 to 1.3 Million Scoville: The Sauces Behind the Jungle Fire Challenge

How Hot Can You Go? Meet the Sauces Behind Jungle Fire

There is spicy food.

And then there is Jungle Fire.

The Jungle Fire Spicy Chicken Wings Challenge at The Room by Jungle Joy in St Julian's, Malta takes participants through nine rounds of increasingly hot chicken wings.

The challenge starts relatively friendly.

It does not stay that way.

Across nine rounds, competitors move from smoky chilli sauces at around 1,000 Scoville Heat Units to an extreme final round listed at more than 1.3 million SHU.

Two secret Chickeria sauces are also hidden inside the heat ladder, meaning participants do not know exactly what level of heat is waiting for them.

Here is the full Jungle Fire sauce journey.

What Is the Scoville Scale?

The Scoville scale measures the heat or pungency associated with chilli peppers and chilli-based products.

The measurement is expressed in Scoville Heat Units – SHU.

In simple terms:

The higher the SHU number, the hotter the chilli.

A sauce at 1,000 SHU can provide a noticeable kick without being extreme.

Move into tens of thousands and things become considerably more serious.

Once sauces enter the hundreds of thousands – or more than one million Scoville – you are dealing with a completely different level of heat.

And Jungle Fire takes you all the way there.

The Jungle Fire Heat Ladder

Round 1: Secret Chickeria Starter Sauce

Heat Level: Mystery

The challenge begins with a secret.

Our first sauce comes from Chickeria, but its exact Scoville rating remains hidden from participants.

This is the introduction to Jungle Fire.

It gives competitors their first taste of what is ahead without revealing everything immediately.

Do not get too confident.

Round one is only the beginning.

Round 2: Cholula Chipotle – 1,000 SHU

Scoville Rating: approximately 1,000 SHU

Round two introduces the smoky flavour of Cholula Chipotle.

At around 1,000 Scoville Heat Units, this is still very approachable for experienced chilli lovers.

Chipotle brings more than just heat.

Its smoky character gives the wings a rich flavour and creates a relatively gentle introduction before the challenge begins to accelerate.

If you are already struggling here, the later rounds could be a problem.

Round 3: Crazy Bastard Scotch Bonnet – 7,000 SHU

Scoville Rating: approximately 7,000 SHU

Now we start turning up the temperature.

The Scotch Bonnet is famous for combining serious chilli heat with fruity, almost tropical flavours.

Crazy Bastard's Scotch Bonnet sauce takes participants from around 1,000 SHU to approximately 7,000 SHU.

Seven times the listed heat of the previous round.

This is usually where the challenge starts feeling less like dinner and more like competition.

Round 4: Mustard & Habanero – 42,000 SHU

Scoville Rating: approximately 42,000 SHU

Welcome to Habanero territory.

Round four jumps dramatically to around 42,000 Scoville Heat Units.

Habaneros are known for an intense heat that can build quickly and remain noticeable long after the wing has disappeared.

Combined with mustard, the sauce offers acidity, flavour and serious chilli power.

At this stage, Jungle Fire stops being casual.

And there are still five rounds remaining.

Round 5: Secret Chickeria Middle Sauce

Heat Level: Mystery

Just when participants think they understand the progression, Chickeria returns.

The Secret Chickeria Middle Sauce marks the halfway point of the challenge.

Its exact heat level?

We are not telling you.

Part of Jungle Fire is dealing with the unknown.

You know the wings are getting hotter.

You just do not know exactly what is coming next.

Round 6: Killer Skorpion – 60,000 SHU

Scoville Rating: approximately 60,000 SHU

Round six takes the challenge to around 60,000 SHU.

The name gives you a clue:

Killer Skorpion.

At this level, the heat becomes much harder to ignore.

For many casual spicy-food fans, 60,000 Scoville is already far beyond what they would normally order in a restaurant.

But Jungle Fire competitors are only entering the final third of the challenge.

Round 7: Who Dares Burns – Naga & Chipotle – 120,000 SHU

Scoville Rating: approximately 120,000 SHU

Now we double the heat again.

Who Dares Burns Naga & Chipotle brings the challenge to approximately 120,000 Scoville Heat Units.

Naga chillies have a reputation among serious chilli enthusiasts for a reason.

Combined with smoky chipotle, this round delivers both flavour and significant heat.

By round seven, the table usually looks very different from round one.

Three words matter:

Who dares burns.

Round 8: Man The Fuck Up! – 1,200,000 SHU

Scoville Rating: approximately 1.2 MILLION SHU

This is the jump that changes everything.

Round seven: 120,000 SHU.

Round eight: 1,200,000 SHU.

That is a tenfold jump in the listed Scoville rating.

At this point, Jungle Fire enters the extreme end of the hot sauce world.

This is not simply a slightly hotter chicken wing.

1.2 million Scoville is serious heat.

Participants who have made it this far have already survived seven increasingly spicy rounds.

Now they have to decide whether they really want to continue.

And somehow...

This still isn't the final round.

Round 9: Infierno Extra Picante – 1,300,000+ SHU

Scoville Rating: 1,300,000+ SHU

The final boss.

The last round.

Infierno Extra Picante.

The Jungle Fire finale reaches a listed heat level of more than 1.3 million Scoville Heat Units.

There is nowhere left to hide.

No mystery round after this.

No easier wing waiting on the other side.

Anyone who reaches round nine has already battled smoky chipotle, Scotch Bonnet, Habanero, Naga and two secret Chickeria creations.

Now there is just one final wing between them and victory.
